Orpyx Medical Technologies Ends Two Streaks with TEC VenturePrize Victory

by Techvibes NewsDesk

There are two common threads woven throughout the past 10 years of TEC VenturePrize winners, such as 2008's DataGardens and 2010's Biolithic.

One is that every company who has ever won is from Edmonton; two, that every winning company has been headed by a male.

This week, Orpyx Medical Technologies ended both of those streaks. The Calgary-based company, headed by president and CEO Breanne Everett, beat out the competition to win the 11th annual TEC VenturePrize awards.

Orpyx's mission is to innovate "accessible and beneficial sensor-based technologies and sensory substitution systems to enable and empower consumers to actively monitor pressure to avoid unnecessary interventions and improve overall quality of life." The Canadian company hopes to, within five years, become the world leader in this technology.

"We are absolutely elated to have been awarded this year's TECVenture Fast Growth Grand Prize," says Everett. "We could not be happier with the support we have received from the Alberta Tech community, and this is really the culmination of that backing. This award will be completely invaluable in continuing to grow Orpyx, and ultimately, helping us to save limbs and save lives."
