Ottawa's Bridgewater Systems to bring 4G service to Nicaragua

Nicaragua’s first 4G networking will have a strong Canadian connection — Ottawa’s Bridgewater Systems has been selected by telecom company Yota to maintain their WiMAX systems and deliver “innovative, personalized services and high speed mobile Internet” to the country.

Nicaragua’s capital, Managua, will be the first to receive 4G coverage, although three other major cities are planned to be served before the end of 2010.

The Bridgewater Service Controller is the key to Yota’s network. It securely authorizes and authenticates subscribers and provides critical accounting functions. It offers extensive WiMAX functionality, including lawful intercept, over-the-air device provisioning, and support for a variety of business models. It will allow Yota to deliver new streaming media, mobile office, and location-based services in a personalized manner to subscribers.

Yota, an international telecom giant based in Russia, is a long-time partner of Bridgewater. They will be turning to the Bridgewater Service Controller again when 4G service is rolled out in Peru later this year.
