Montreal's PasswordBox announced today that it has joined the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance.
The alliance aims to reduce our reliance on passwords while supporting the adoption of emerging authentication technologies across all devices.
"PasswordBox brings unique technologies to the FIDO Alliance that will help users to transition from passwords to FIDO enabled online properties," said Sebastien Taveau, Chief Evangelist, BPD, Synaptics.
"A transparent solution that is in-line with user choices and service providers' level of integration with new forms of authentication reduces friction and can promote widespread adoption of FIDO authentication," he added.
According to a 2013 Norton Report, many consumers are making a conscious decision to trade their safety for convenience; many more are unaware that they’re making the same trade. FIDO standards for strong authentication have mass appeal to consumers who must have authentication that is both easy-to-use and secure, without compromising either.

FIDO members commit to share technology and collaborate to deliver open specifications for universal strong authentication that enables FIDO-compliant authentication methods to be interoperable, more secure and private, and easier to use.
According to today's press release, PasswordBox will work with the FIDO Alliance to create simpler, stronger authentication solutions and reduce online fraud and safeguard personal data, transactions and identities.
