Pebble Smartwatch Finally Gets a Shipping Date Eons After Kickstarter Campaign Ends

The Pebble Smartwatch shattered Kickstarter records when it raised more than $10 million from nearly 69,000 backers during its campaign last spring. But it failed to ship on time.

In fact, it was so delayed in shipping that the company gave up offering a shipping date for a while. Until the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month, where Pebble finally coughed up a new deadline: January 23.

Pebble smartwatches are currently being produced at a rate of 15,000 per week, the company says. But it may still take up to two months to clear the backlog of early campaign supporters.

While it's been disappointing to watch Pebble miss its own deadlines, we can't be too hard on them. After all, we know that 75% of technology projects funded on Kickstarter don't ship on time. It's not a Pebble problem; it's more of a crowdfunding problem.
