PEI video game incubator puts out two games

After three months of hard work, Prince Edward Island video game incubator Game Garage can claim a successful third round, as two market-ready prototypes have emerged.

Dubbed Cipher and DotBot, the pair of games were unveiled at a gala event held in Charlottetown earlier this month.

Running from June 1st to August 31st, Game Garage brought together ten game design and animation program graduates from the Atlantic region and got them working at the Atlantic Technology Centre.

With completed game prototypes, graduates of the incubator now have the option of pitching the games for sale or starting their own company, joining the rest of PEI's game sector.

Some participants have already been hired by PEI-based media companies.

The Game Garage Incubator is a joint project between Innovation PEI, Telefilm Canada, and the Interactive Media Alliance.

"Game Garage 3 is the best ever. Having two teams working side by side in friendly competition has made both projects stronger,” said Mark Sandiford, President of the Interactive Media Alliance in a press release. “Game Garage is proving to be an invaluable program for building the game studios of the future."

“Innovation PEI is proud to support an innovative program that helps address the human resources needs of the Gaming Industry,” added Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell in the press release. “This program shows the strength of the gaming industry in Prince Edward Island, and the cooperation that is taking place to achieve results that are capturing interest across the country.”
