Pinterest Popular in Canada, Men Slowly Warming up to Platform

Pinterest continues to perform well in the Canadian market and men here are warming up to the historically female-oriented social network.

The online scrapbooking platform says Canada is its second-biggest market behind only the US. The company also insists the gap between female and male users it closing, albeit gradually.

The userbase in Canada has grown by 60% in 2014, according to Pinterest, a rate parallel with US growth. However, the site still falls behind others. 66% of online Canadians have used Facebook in the past month and 19% have used Twitter, but only 13% have used Pinterest.

Moreover, while Facebook and Twitter see roughly equale usage from both genders, Pinterest has four to six times as many female users as it does male users. However, the company says growth rates among men are higher than for women, so the gap should continue to close.

One of Pinterest’s most popular accounts in Canada is the NHL, which boasts 1.2 million users, far more than any other national sports league—yet still most of its users are female, even though hockey typically attracts more men.
