Technology patent house Wi-LAN has formed a partnership with Calgary's Poynt Corp. to help Poynt license its portfolio of Internet advertising patents.

"Wi-LAN's proven track record and strong financial position made Wi-LAN the licensing partner of choice for Poynt," Andrew Osis, president and CEO of Poynt, said in a statement.

Under the agreement, Wi-LAN subsidiary Gladios IP will have day-to-day responsibility for developing programs aimed at licensing Poynt's patent portfolio. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.

Ottawa's Wi-LAN has a portfolio of more than 970 issued or pending patents and licenses its intellectual property to more than 230 companies.
