ReadWriteWeb is weighing in with what they feel will be the big positive trends for the Web in 2008, with several developments which dovetail work being done in Vancouver's tech community. At the top of their list is the continued growth of the open source movement, as well as the growth of the mobile web and the continued push for OpenID adoption. They also feature OpenAds, a new alternative advertising network touted as an alternative to Google's dominant Adsense program. With companies like AdHack, SXIP, Raincity Studios, and many others working in this space, Vancouver's tech firms stand to benefit from the continued growth of open standards in 2008 and beyond.

We are with you Warren! To paraphrase from The Graduate "the future is in open source."

With the vast knowledge and practical experience abounding in Vancouver, Raincity is focusing on innovating through building web products, outreaching to open source communities, and refining processes by constantly re-evaluating our tools - both internally and for clients - and then sharing the best practices we uncover.

Further, we aim to explore (and help define) emerging economic models through continued R&D in areas including identity and mobile.

Indeed, there's room for all the smart companies to help grow Vancouver as a leader in the open source economic development universe.

Hey Warren, thanks for the kind words and inclusion on such a distinguished list of local Vancouver companies. Hopefully by this time next year we'll hear another rosy outlook for DIY advertising.
