If you want to be on the radar of recruiters, an active social (media) life is advisable.
According to a recently released annual North American Staffing and Recruiting Trends Report from Boston-based Bullhorn, a staggering 98% of recruiters used social media for recruiting in 2012. This number is up from 94% in 2011.
Which social networks do recruiters utilize specificially? Bullhorn's report says that LinkedIn dominates, with 97% of recruiters using the professionally oriented network. Facebook and Twitter are almost tied for second place at 51% and 49% respectively.
While Facebook and Twitter stop well short of LinkedIn's popularity among recruiters, their usefulness is quickly being recognized. 38% of respondents in Bullhorn's survey say they plan to use Twitter more this year, while 37% said the same for Facebook.
