With the IPv4 IP addressing scheme approaching exhaustion, the Number Resource Organization (NRO), along with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the Internet Society (ISOC) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) for will be making an important announcement tomorrow, Thursday, February 3rd, at 9:30 a.m. ET via webcast, regarding the switch to IPv6.

The NRO is an international, non-government organization that manages and distributes IP address blocks to affiliated regional organizations. With the last possible IP addresses having been recently handed to the Asian regional organization, APNIC, the NRO is preparing to switch over to the new IP system, IPv6, which will increase the possible addresses from 4.3 billion to — wait for it — 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456, according to the CBC.

According to the Canadian Internet Registry Association, “the transition to IPv6 will very soon become all the more important to Canadian businesses and individuals if they want to be on the cutting edge and be able to continue accessing the entire worldwide web,” and the webcast will have important information for anyone interested in the transition.

To watch the webcast, tune in here at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time.
