RIM has acquired NewBay Software for an alleged $100 million, AllThingsD reports.

NewBay provides white-label cloud-based content services, which could wind up being the foundation of RIM's future cloud-based content services.

However, as usual in recent times, RIM is late to the game: fully integrating NewBay's technology into BlackBerry products could take up to a year, while other mobile device makers like Apple and Amazon already have full-featured cloud services available to consumers.
