Research in Motions surpasses analyst expectations with second-quarter statistics
Canada's Research in Motion announced its second-quarter profits on Friday. They beat many analyst expectations, which have been pessimistic due to heated competition from Apple and Google, in addition to foreign troubles over security.
For the venerable tech firm, revenue during the second quarter grew more than 30 percent year-over-year to over $4.5-billion. Earnings per share leapt 76 per cent to just under $1.50 over the same period last year.
The company also shipped 12.1 million BlackBerrys during the quarter, which was a record.
“We expect a continuation of this momentum in the third quarter as we extend the rollout of new products, including the BlackBerry Torch, into additional markets and benefit from heavy promotional activities and increasing customer demand as we head into the holiday buying season,” RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie said in a statement.
