Restaurant Makeover: on the web and on your mobile device

by Rob Lewis

Restaurant websites are notoriously bad. We've all tried to find a favourite eatery online only to be frustrated with a Flash site with auto-playing music or a menu buried on multiple illegible PDFs.

Two new services out of Vancouver are hoping to change that and we should all benefit.

EZFOODIE from Split Mango Media is a restaurant website solution built on the WordPress platform that allows for the dynamic creation of websites on the fly. EZFOODIE allows users to integrate social media accounts, Google Analytics, Google Places, email marketing, and online reservations through OpenTable. Slick.

Menuito was built by Vancouver software experience designer Todd Sieling and works alongside a restaurant's existing website without changing it.

Restaurant owners just enter what customers need to know on the go: hours, phone number, location, specials, etc. Menuito takes care of the rest. Restaurant owners get the benefits of mobile without the hassle of a new site. And diners get the info they're searching for thanks to a super-fast mobile site.

Any recommendations on what restaurants should be using one or both of these services? What sites have helped you lose your appetite?
