RIM acquires Cellmania, a software developer for virtual app stores, in effort to compete with Apple and Android

Research in Motion has confirmed that it's acquired Cellmania (based in California). Cellmania produces software to manage virtual application stores and their content.

Shares in RIM are up after the announcement, despite a lack of details, such as financial terms.

Cellmania is expected to help RIM improve its lagging BlackBerry App World.
