Courts Force Company to Change BBX Name

The string of bad news continues for Research In Motion.

The Waterloo tech company has been forced to change the name of its next-gen operating platform, BBX, after a U.S. federal court prevented RIM from using the name at a conference due to trademark infringement on another company. RIM has since tweeted that it will dub its next mobile OS, to be launched in 2012 alongside its next roster of devices, "BlackBerry 10," despite its current generation of software only being BlackBerry 7.

A global business software company based in Albuquerque called Basis International has been using the name "BBx" for several years. RIM unveiled the term BBX back in October at its San Fransisco developer conference. Despite immediate legal controversy, RIM continued to use the term.
