Research In Motion (RIM) announced today that it has reached an agreement for RIM to acquire Ottawa's QNX Software Systems, a company with technology that helps bring the Internet to cars.  This strategic move signals RIM's further intent to add its products and builds on its purchase of Internet-connected, in-car GPS device maker Dash Navigation last year.

QNX's technology can be used to deliver wireless broadband services such as Internet radio, video-on-demand and navigation to vehicles.

RIM co-chief executive Mike Lazaridis says his company and QNX will be working to integrate the use of smart phones and vehicle audio and infotainment systems.

The companies didn't disclose what RIM is paying for QNX, which Research In Motion is acquiring from Harman International
