RIM's CEOs Reduce Annual Salary to $1 as Company's Stock Sinks
Research In Motion's dual chief executive officers, Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, have reduced to their annual salary to a single dollar after watching their company's stock plunge 10% following yet another abysmal earnings report. In an effort to better a wounded balance sheet, the two CEOs are erasing their own pay in hopes of showing investors they're dedicated to revitalizing the company.
In a conference call with analysts, Jim stated the painfully obvious: "The last few quarters have been some of the most trying in the recent history of this company. We recognize our shareholders may feel we've fallen short."
Plagued by product delays, outdated software, a lack of apps, a diminished cool factor, and sheer bad luck, RIM has fallen from grace. Once an unstoppable pioneer in the smartphone space, RIM's $140-share price has sunk deeply to less than $14 and is now considered a laggard by many.
