Rogers launches Canada's first LTE network in Ottawa; more cities and compatible smartphones coming

Rogers today launched Canada’s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) network and Ottawans are the first in Canada to experience this latest global wireless technology.
This fall, the company will roll out LTE to Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, and then to another 21 markets in 2012. The first LTE-compatible smartphones will come from HTC and Samsung later this year.
LTE promises to deliver higher speeds and lower latency than other wireless networks, including the "4G" HSPA+. It also offers greater usage capacity, so more users can access top speeds simultaneously.
Rogers claims its LTE Rocket Stick will be capable of 75 Mbps on its network, although it does describe this as a "maximum theoretical download speed," so don't actually expect to achieve this or probably anything close to it.
