SAP to pay $6.8 billion for Business Objects

German software company SAP has agreed to buy Business Objects, a leader in the fast-growing market for business intelligence software, for $6.8 billion. This is significant news in BC as Business Objects acquired Vancouver-based Crystal Decisions in 2003 and are a Top 10 Tech employer locally with over 1,500 employees. The 2003 acquisition joined two of the strongest-performing Business Intelligence companies in enterprise software, with highly complementary products, distribution channels, and talent pools. Business Objects had been rumoured to be a takeover target for more than a month and its share price had risen about 15 percent in the last few weeks.
