Calgary-based Shaw Communications has struck a marketing, content and promotion partnership with San Francisco-based Rdio, one of the few major digital music streaming services avilable in Canada.
The goal of the partnership, says Shaw, is to "provide Canadians a seamless digital experience for music."
"We believe our customers should have access to the best content available," explains Brad Shaw, CEO of Shaw. "Our partnership with Rdio will develop great offers that will enable Shaw customers and everyone across the country to enjoy this service."
"Canada is Rdio's second largest market and is a huge priority for us," notes Rdio's CEO, Anthony Bay. "We're very excited to align with Shaw to become the top music service in Canada."
As part of the arrangement, Shaw Ventures has made a financial investment in Rdio's holding company, Pulser Media.
Launched in August 2010, Rdio is headquartered in San Francisco and was founded by Janus Friis, the co-creator of Skype, and is currently available in 51 countries.
