CNMA AwardsThe Canadian New Media Awards took place in Toronto last night and two Vancouver-based companies fared well in the Most Promising New Company of the Year category. Hothead Games won and MovieSet Inc. was a runner-up. In their 7th year, the Canadian New Media Awards recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of individuals and companies in the Canadian new media industry. The product and company awards promote the new media sector and provide inspiration for those preparing to enter the industry like never before.

Hothead Games is a platform-agnostic company committed to innovation in gameplay. While best known for its upcoming PC-based episodic comedy adventure game Penny Arcade Adventures, the company's second game in development is much anticipated. Swarm (working title) will be a truly innovative technical combination of swarm management gameplay with sophisticated machine learning artificial intelligence.

MovieSet Inc. is hoping to turn independent filmmakers on to Internet marketing with its new web-based production management program that doubles as a fan forum to give cinephiles and movie groupies a behind-the-scenes look at their craft. Founder Colleen Nystedt is in fund-raising mode and after having a quick look a their online demo, I think she'll be very successful.
