Skype has officially launched for the iPad.

The free custom app lets you make voice calls, video calls, and instant messages on your Apple tablet. You can even do landline and cellphone calls by paying Skype credit, just like the full-bodied Mac and PC apps.

If you already have a Skype account, contacts and the like will automatically appear on your iPad's Skype app. You can use Skype over wifi or a 3G network. The app also akes advantage of both cameras the iPad boasts, akin to FaceTime HD, so you can let your friend see your face to see what you're seeing in front of you.

The app requires iOS 4. Check out the app in iTunes.
