Vancouver-based SoMedia Networks announced this morning that Ben Pickering has been named its new President and Chief Operating Officer effective as of October 1st. SoMedia Founder George Fleming will resign as President of the Company but will remain its Chief Executive Officer.
Techvibes readers will recognize Pickering's name - he was formally the CEO of much-heralded Vancouver startup Strutta and recently penned a guest column for this site titled Forget Silicon Valley North, Let’s Make Vancouver 'Canadian HQ'.
Pickering has more than 15 years of experience in the online media and software industries, and has worked with both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to joining Strutta, Mr. Pickering held several strategic roles at Yahoo!, where his responsibilities included business development, product strategy, and operations in both the Audiences and Advertising divisions.
Pickering's responsibilities will include oversight of the SoMedia's operations and business development initiatives, with a particular focus on the sales and marketing of their cloud-based video content production, marketing and engagement analytics platforms.
"We are thrilled to add Ben to the SoMedia team," stated George Fleming, SoMedia's Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "Our company has grown rapidly over the course of 2013 as we've increased market penetration of the web services sector and grown our reseller base from less than 800 partners at the beginning of the year to over 3700 by the end of the summer. With first mover advantage and continued growth in demand for video production and marketing solutions we see the opportunity ahead of us as truly remarkable. Ben's experience in the online media industry makes him the ideal candidate to oversee our continued progress while also driving future growth towards positioning SoMedia as the web's go-to provider for integrated video production, marketing and engagement analytics solutions."
