Connect is an online one-stop-shop of services and resources for entrepreneurs and one of three key initiatives outlined in its Startup Blueprints to drive economic development, job creation, and innovation from coast to coast, Startup Canada says.
The free, highly social online platform will enable Canadian entrepreneurs to tap into local and national communities to connect with fellow startups and enterprise support organizations, and will improve entrepreneurs’ access to the tools and resources they need to build more successful businesses.
“Right now the Canadian support system for startups is fragmented,” explains Victoria Lennox, Startup Canada Cofounder. “Startup Canada Connect is will be a one-stop-shop that aggregates and streamlines support tools, programs and services for entrepreneurs, and to enable everyone in the ecosystem to connect, communicate and collaborate to better serve Canadian entrepreneurs and feed a vibrant entrepreneurial network.”
Startup Canada made the announcement from Waterloo’s Accelerator Centre with Mayor Brenda Halloran and members of Waterloo’s innovation and enterprise communities.
“Since hosting one of Startup Canada’s Ontario National Tour stops in May, we’ve been watching the campaign gain momentum and make groundbreaking progress in uniting and inspiring Canada’s entrepreneurs,” noted Mayor Halloran. “As one of Canada’s leading innovation hubs, Waterloo is proud to partner with Startup Canada to launch this next step in its national strategy to build a more entrepreneurial Canada.”
If the crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal, Startup Canada plans to launch the Connect platform in May 2013.
