Calgary native Maeghan Smulders graduated from Mount Royal University last June with 29 job offers. For the 24-year-old, that wasn't enough.
She launched ProjectONE12, a speed interning initiative that saw her roll through concurrent unpaid internships, from a week to a month apiece, at 10 different companies across the continent over 112 days. The project ended up taking longer and resulted in another 18 job offers - one from every company she interned at, plus eight from the publicity of the project.
47 job offers later, she's now an employee of Montreal's Beyond the Rack, a prominent and rapidly growing Canadian tech startup.
Fittingly, BTR was the super intern's last and longest stint. For her, the blend of innovation, rapid growth, and fashion created the perfect opportunity.
Maeghan starts June 11, according to The Star, where the startup has created a position just for her - she will manage a department focused on marketing and business development.
"I can see them being the next billion-dollar company," she says of Beyond the Rack.
