Tablets, Laptops, Ereaders, Oh My! Canadians Hope For Tech Gifts This Holiday Season

A new nationwide study has found that at least 60% of Canadians would like to receive a technology gift this season.

16% of Canadians want tablets, 10% want laptops, 6% want digital cameras, and 5% want ereaders. Many were too eager to wait for the holidays though, with 68% of Canadians having purchased one or more electronic devices in the past year, including 23% who bought laptops, 13% who bought desktops, and 6% who bought tablets.

Even though consumers seem to love these items, they don't appear to use them to the full potential. For example, only 77% use computers for email and just 53% use them to pay bills online. And a mere 29% indulge in ecommerce, with only 18% watching movies and 13% watching television shows.

“These findings show that there is a real need not only to upgrade existing technology, but also to get up to speed with what it can do,” says Rick Atkinson, vice president of marketing for Staples Canada. “The holiday season is the perfect time for Canadians to plug in.”

The research was conducted by Vision Critical on behalf of Staples Canada.
