Tech Companies Still Dominate World's Top Brands

Technology companies still dominate BrandZ's list of the world's top brands, market research agency Millward Brown has revealed. But that's not very shocking—there are technology's glory days. The big news this year is that software titan Google has been knocked off its second-place pedestal.

Apple once again tops the list, boosting its brand value to $183 billion. Newcomer Facebook cracked the top 20 with a brand value of $33 billion, although an emerging calamity may severely damage the social network's brand.

70% of top 10 brands were technology companies this year, including staples Microsoft and AT&T. And in a startling upset, underdog IBM leapfrogged Google to claim the coveted number two slot.

The only non-tech companies to crack the top 10 were McDonald's (fourth), Coca-Cola (6th), and Marlboro (7th).
