Last month the Montreal Gazette's Roberto Rocha announced that he was leaving his job as a technology reporter to take a one year leave of absence. The Gazette is a CanWest property.

Technocité's Rocha knew that many would consider his desicion nuts considering the current turmoil in the newspaper industry - so, he filmed his announcement and it's become an viral hit.

Be sure to watch the video to see how everything unfolded for Rocha.

Fast forward to February: Last week Rocha's replacement on the Technocité beat was announced and today Jason Madger introduced himself.

I have been living in Montreal all my life (except for a one-year stint living in Lancaster, Ontario from 2000-2001). I graduated journalism in 2000, and have worked in newspapers, first in a small town in Alexandria working for The Glengarry News, then at The Suburban, as reporter and sports editor. I had a brief stint at CBC Radio before I finally landed my dream job at The Gazette in 2007.

Until taking over the Technocité beat, I was the night reporter, covering fires, crime, and council meetings, and other exciting things that happen overnight in Montreal.

Working at The Gazette has allowed me to do all sorts of cool things. I ran with the Olympic torch, got a ride in a NASCAR stock car, and now I'll be immersed in the fast-paced world of Montreal's rapidly growing tech industry.

I hope you'll follow me as religiously as you did Roberto. Please feel free to send me lots of feedback during my baptism by fire.
