TechSouthEast/CanWITTechSouthEastThe recently formed Atlantic Chapter of Canadian Women in Technology (CanWIT) have recently partnered with TechSouthEast, in order to promote and advance the role of women working in the technology field in the south-east New Brunswick area.  TechSouthEast, work to accelerate growth in the life science and technology sectors in this same area.  According to TechSouthEast, women make up only 25% of the advanced technology worforce here in Canada.

Laura O’Blenis, Chair of the CanWIT Atlantic Chapter, believes the partnership to be mutually beneficial.  “We look forward to working with TechSouthEast, and the Greater Moncton region to advance the regional knowledge economy and women in IT movement. Tech South East has established a reputation for supporting, promoting, and facilitating the growth of technologies in the region. A partnership with CanWIT will benefit both organizations in bringing greater awareness for the need of women in technology, and non-traditional leadership roles.”

CanWIT have already begun making headway in the Atlantic region.  Set to launch this October, a national eMentorship project, funded by the Government of Canada, will be extending into the Maritimes.  According to O’Bleins, “The eMentorship initiative represents one of the early opportunities for this partnership.”
