TEDxConcordia promises great insights from Montreal and the world’s brightest

Anyone interested in hearing about exciting new ideas, or new takes on ideas we already know about should not pass up the opportunity to catch the next TEDx event, TEDxConcordia.

TEDx events are independently organized editions of TED talks. In case you’ve never heard of TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design), they are presentations given by some of the world’s foremost thinkers on a wide variety of topics. While that might not sound like the most revolutionary idea in the world, what makes TED so important is the pedigree of their speakers and the depth of their knowledge. While TED is known for hosting addresses from luminaries like Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, to name a few, they have equally impressive presentations from lesser-known subject matter experts. For example, listen to this presentation from neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor on her experiences after having a stroke and learning from her own brain.

TEDxConcordia won’t feature any former presidents or CEOs from major computer manufacturers, but a lot of local Montreal talent will be in attendance, sharing their insights and sparking discussions. As TEDxConcordia says on their website, “You might not know some of these speakers. And that’s a good thing. TEDxConcordia features unique and interesting ideas that might have flown under the radar. Until now.”

Here are a few of the speakers who will be presenting at TEDxConcordia:

  • Mitch Joel, president of Twist Image: a veteran of social marketing, Joel will be giving a presentation on “the counterintuitive possibility of an increasingly anti-social Web.”
  • Dr. Gad Saad, professor at Concordia University: Dr. Saad will be explaining some of his Darwinian research, and most importantly, how evolutionary theory can be applied to studying consumerism.
  • Adele McAlear, digtal marketing consultant: McAlear will be talking about “our online legacies and how to ensure the appropriate preservation of our binary ashes.”

TEDxConcordia takes place on February 19th, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Eric Maclean Center for the Performing Arts at Concordia University’s Loyola Campus. For more information, including registration info, click here.
