Telus to hire 200 customer service staff in Edmonton

by Liam Britten

Thanks to the success of their Optik digital television service, Telus announced that 200 new employees would be hired to work at the company's Edmonton call centre.

The additional employees bring the total staff at the Edmonton call centre to 900.

From The Edmonton Journal:

Joanne Beaton, Telus vice-president of customer service ... said the new staff are needed to support strong demand for Optik TV, which was developed in Edmonton at the company's chief technology office.

"A lot of the technology it runs on is centred in the city, so it's a good spot for us to have the customer support and the technical support in the same location. ... We have some state-of-the-art contact centre facilities in Edmonton, and we're looking to optimize those as well," Beaton said.

As of June 30, Telus had 228,000 TV customers, double its customer base the previous year, it said.
