The BlackBerry Dakota is a Bold with touchscreen - assuming it actually exists
Trending on Twitter earlier today was the BlackBerry Dakota - a RIM smartphone that doesn't exist. Or does it?
Engadget, a leading source for credible news on tech toys, is convinced that the Dakota is legit. Without, of course, guaranteeing accuracy, the site suggests these specs:
The BlackBerry Dakota which we heard about back in July, definitely seems to be real. [It] looks like it's going to boast that up top 2.8-inch (VGA resolution) capacitive touchscreen we'd heard about, with the BlackBerry Bold-style keyboard you've come to know and love below. It's a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device with tri-band UMTS. It also packs a 5 megapixel cam with HD video recording, 4GB of storage, plus 768MB of RAM. The phone will also have WiFi and be 3G hotspot-enabled, and it'll run BlackBerry OS 6.1.
There is no word on pricing or availability. Considering the Style, a BlackBerry flip-smartphone, just came out, the Dakota may be a while away. I doubt RIM would steal thunder from the PlayBook though. So it's possible that, safely assuming it will launch after the PlayBook tablet, the Dakota will run QNX software, which RIM likely wants to run on all BlackBerrys eventually (even though OS 6 was very recent).
