Ever wonder where the money you spend on your outrageously high smartphone bill goes? Right into the pockets of three lucky men.
A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives has revealed the total compensation of 100 major CEOs in Canada. In this list are the fat cats of the Big Three telcos - Rogers, Telus, and Bell.
Darren Entwistle, head of Telus, was the top earner among all Canadian telecommunications CEOs in 2011. Darren earned just a hair under $10 million, after adding his pension, stock options, and bonuses to his already bloated $1.25 million salary. Darren ranked 25th overall.
In second was Nadir Mohamed, the head of Rogers, who earned $8.6 million. He was 38th overall. George Cope, CEO of Bell, earned $4.3 million, good enough for 95th overall.
RIM's dual-CEOs, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, earned a combined total of $5.1 million. Their 2011 salary was $1.2 million but has since been reduced to $1 in an effort to save face as their company crumbles around them.
The top Canadian CEO, Magna's Frank Stronach, earned more than $60 million. The average compensation in 2011 for the top 100 CEOs was over $8.3 million, up 27% from 2009's $6.6 million. The average Canadian earns about $44,000, or 189 times less.
