The New

by Techvibes NewsDesk

On Tuesday night the good folks at Twitter announced a bunch of cool upgrades to their service.

Earlier in the afternoon, Twitter CEO @Ev (Evan Williams) announced that Twitter would be making changes to the popular social networking site to make it easier and more fun to navigate:

Today we’re launching a new—a faster, easier, and richer way to discover what’s new in your world. (Tweet from @Ev)

Here's a couple of the cool changes that were announced earlier this evening:

  1. Over the next 30 days Twitter will be rolling out a brand new web interface.  The new interface will be introduced starting the The States.  When Canada will be included is anyone's guess at this time.
  2. Twitter plans to integrate within their new interface dynamic multimedia.

This last point - a multimedia enabled interface - seems to be the "big" in today's big announcement.  Twitter announced that they have agreements with the following multimedia content providers that will help Twitter mature:

  • Flickr
  • TwitVid
  • TwitPic
  • YouTube
  • Justin TV
  • Daily Booth
  • Vimeo
  • yfrog
  • ...and more.

It seems that the purpose of this latest round of moves is to continue to make the destination of choice for Twitter users instead of popular Twitter clients such as Tweetdeck or HootSuite.
