The next evolution of physical payment: ultra high-tech credit cards

by Knowlton Thomas

credit cardsIt's a evolution that borders a revolution.

Card 2.0, or 2G, is a remarkable new credit and debit card to be tested by Citibank in November.

The new card boasts some incredible new features, such as carrying multiple accounts, possessing a digital screen, and having buttons—all while remaining as thin as today's cards.

There will be two different cards: a convenience-oriented one, and a security-oriented one. The former allows you to have two different cards in one—such as a corporate credit card and personal one. The latter allows your card to have a time-sensitive unique code you must enter to activate it, so if its stolen, it can be useless to the thief.

These cards are expected to launch to the general public in late 2011.
