This Just In: Study Confirms That People Use the Internet to Waste Time Every Day

This shouldn't surprise many.

According to a new report from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, young adults use the world wide web to waste time, deciding to go on the internet even when they have no reason to whatsoever. The data revealed that 53% of people aged 18 to 29 go online to "pass time" or "have fun" on any given day.

The report also found that the amount of time spent—or wasted—on the web corresponds with age. For example, just 12% of people older than 65 go online for no reason on any given day. Looking at just one demographic younger, those aged 50 to 64, that number jumped to 27%. Overall, 58% of all adults surveyed use the internet with no purpose in mind at least occasionally.
