Last year, RIM partnered with Porsche to design a $2,000 BlackBerry smartphone.
The device faced ridicule from critics who suggested RIM should be focusing its efforts on reversing its tumbling stock and never found its way outside of Dubai, the original market. But now Porsche has opened a boutique store in Toronto's upscale Yorkville neighbourhood and has placed RIM's pricey device on the shelf.
However, one major design flaw with the expensive smartphone is that it won't be upgradeable to BlackBerry 10, RIM's next-gen mobile platform anticipated to launch this fall.
Premium finishes and a one-of-a-kind look may make this Porsche-designed "P'9981" BlackBerry an ideal collector's item, but those seeking the best BlackBerry would be wise to stick to the Bold 9900 or Torch 9860.
