In an effort to combat texting while driving, the Province on Ontario is steeply raising fines.
Previously $155, the new fine will clock in at $280 as of March 15.
“Distracted driving is one of the fastest-growing causes of death,” Transportation Minister Glen Murray told reporters this week. “We are looking at legislative and regulatory options.”
According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, drivers talking or texting on their smartphones are now causing more deaths than drunk drivers in Ontario.
