We're #1! Woo hoo! :D.

Erik Kalviainen said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 5:57 AM

Kind of a funny coincidence. Alexa overhauled how they calculate rankings a few hours after this post. I think it would affect a few rankings.

Jeremy Wright said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 8:36 AM

Yep, #1 again. W00t ;-)

Erik: For us v the rest of the list, we gained 30K rank positions in Alexa, iBegin stayed fairly flat.

AhmedF said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 9:40 AM

What skullduggery is this!

I am confused. If you visit Alexa, it has 'B5media.com has a rank of: 40,923' and 'Ibegin.com has a traffic rank of: 33,593'

So where did 34000 and 48000 come from? :-S

Jeremy Wright said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 9:44 AM

Ahmed: See Erik's link.

Or, see this: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/b5media.com?site0=ibegin.com&site1=b5media.com&y=t&z=3&h=400&w=700&u%5B%5D=ibegin.com&u%5B%5D=b5media.com&x=2008-04-17T17%3A47%3A11.000Z&check=www.alexa.com&signature=luwFQfSS%2FOPDB3f5RiXdnC7%2FNhM%3D&range=3m&size=Large

So we stick with older less accurate #s? :)

Jeremy Wright said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 10:25 AM

*sigh* the new numbers are inaccurate as well. Until the numbers settle in (which takes 3 months), it's all inaccurate on Alexa.

Greg said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 10:47 AM

The numbers were recorded on Sunday as I would be busy Mon-Tues at the Open Web conference. This Alexa change was a surprise to us too. It's nice to see them innovate.

We won't revise this list for this month, but we'll see the changes next month. As Jeremy said, the rank is based on a three month average so we probably won't see any rapid major fluctuations.

Another suggestion was that we incorporate Quantcast numbers. I was previously leery of their numbers as they seemed US centric and deviated heavily from Alexa and Compete's numbers. However, it looks like they're getting better so I'll ponder it.

AhmedF said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Right - didn't realize Alexa had new numbers.

Jeremy - those new numbers are accurate. Alexa has the new tracking in place for 9 months, so the new 3 month average in place.

Quantcast is just as US-centric as Compete is - which is why I had earlier mentioned maybe factoring in Alexa's specific 'Canada' rank also.

All good fun, though beating Jeremy is always most satisfying :)

Jeremy Wright said on Thu, April 17, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Don't worry Ahmed, while we'll beat you in Alexa next month, bringing in Quantcast (which is a good call) will put you above us.

Though, as always, the only part of "us" you're beating is really just our corporate homepage :-D

While it is an honor to be included in this report... it is important to note that Filemobile is not a consumer product, but a set of tools that help media companies, brands, and agencies create social media applications for their clients. We are probably getting reported on ALEXA from users to our BETA test/r&d product which is Filemobile.com, and something not supported since July 2006. Our core product is Mediafactory (mediafactory.filemobile.com).

Congrats to all the Toronto startups!
