Toronto startup My City Lives launches new mobile video app

My City Lives new app screenshotJust over a year ago, we reported that My City Lives had received $586,686 in funding from the Canada Media Fund to develop mobile platforms for their product. Today, the Toronto-based startup announced the launch of their new mobile video app.

The company claims that the app uses revolutionary technology, and is a game changer, providing subtle tools created to change current user behaviour and invent a whole new medium: watchable, interesting mobile video.

"The My City Lives app provides a new way to explore your city and to learn of what's happening in it at that exact moment," explains company Co-founder Adil Dhalla. "It's a tool for people to contribute and witness the pulse of the city."

The My City Lives iPhone app makes city discovery simple by allowing users to capture, edit and upload videos while you’re on the go. The company asserts that there is no other mobile video app on the market right now that has a discovery tool. The video capture length is unlimited, and it’s free to store your videos on the platform.

Once your video is uploaded to My City Lives, you can share your content with friends by using email or other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The app also offers a “flip to film” feature to address aspect ratios, editing tools, or the video series. All features of this app will educate users on making better mobile video.

Instead of using the native iPhone camera app, you can just film and edit all within the My City Lives app. And when it comes to video capture functionality, users can rotate their cameras to landscape, preventing the large horizontal borders that you often see on videos that get uploaded or shared online.

The explore tab of the app lets you see a live feed of all video uploads, whether it be online or mobile, on My City Lives. So, you can see what’s being added, when and where it’s coming from, and be a part of it.

Users can use the My City Lives app to discover videos of what’s happening in their city. Simply search by proximity, popularity, and even time.

The My City Lives app allows you to do so much more: from exploring new places in your neighbourhood, to virtually travelling to new cities, to assisting with travel planning.

You can download the My City Lives video app for free on the iTunes store today. The company is currently just promoting it in Toronto but plans to push it out to other cities very soon. However, anyone in any other city can start using the app to make content.
