Toronto's TeamBuy.ca, which recently raises $7 million in funding, is set to sponsor National BBQ Day, which takes place tomorrow.
“We’re huge supporters of National BBQ Day! We’re encouraging TeamBuyers to spread the word about Meal Exchange, and register to host their own barbecues this weekend,” said Edward Yao, president and co-founder of TeamBuy.ca, which launched in October 2009. “It’s an incredible organization—student-founded and youth-driven, it has generated more than $3 million worth of food and funds to address local hunger.”
In addition, everyone hosting a barbecue on August 6 can register at MealeExchange.com to “Grill, Grin and Win” two tickets to anywhere WestJet flies. To be eligible to win, participants need simply share their barbecue stories by email, on Facebook Meal Exchange, or on Twitter using the hash tag #nationalBBQday.
Teambuy secures savings by using team-buying power, giving users the benefit of buying in bulk without actually having to. Each feature depends on a minimum number of buyers signing up; if the Buy is successful, a Team Ticket is sent via email within 24 hours to those who purchased. If the target number of customers is not reached by midnight, the Buy is not made available and no one is charged.
