Total Game Changer: PayPal Launches New Mobile Payment App for Canadians

Posted by Techvibes NewsDesk

PayPal says that PayPal Here is here.

This new product from PayPal is a free, thumb-sized card reader and mobile app that transforms iPhones into secure, highly portable payment systems—not unlike Square in the U.S. and the award-winning PayFirma here in Canada. Its launch in Canada is among the first in the world as part of an exclusive test period offered to select merchants.

“This is a massive step forward in realizing PayPal’s vision of anytime, anywhere, any way payments in Canada,” says Darrell MacMullin, Managing Director, PayPal Canada. “We are solving a major pain point for small businesses by helping them say yes to customers who ask to pay by credit card or PayPal, without the businesses having to invest in expensive hardware and pay unexpected fees.”

Zane Caplansky, owner of Caplansky’s Delicatessen and the Thunderin’ Thelma food truck in Toronto, for one calls PayPal Here "a total changer" for small businesses in Canada.

PayPal is priced at 2.7% for swiped card transactions. The device and the app are free, and PayPal says there are "no commitments and no hidden fees." Available immediately for the iPhone, it will expand to Google's Android platform soon.

The payments company also launched an updated PayPal Mobile app for the iPhone. That app now includes features that complement the PayPal Here merchant app.
