Last night at the Vancouver League of Drupalers Meeting, Audrey Foo of the Vancouver PHP Association announced a new tech conference happening in the new year. The Open Web Conference will happen April 14-15, 2008 at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre. In the past, Vancouver PHP has organized successful PHP conferences with high profile speakers. This year, the focus is being expanded to include any open source web technologies including Ruby on Rails, Drupal, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript/AJAX, XML, Perl, and Linux.  Additionally, non-technical topics of open source communities and culture are welcomed.

Open Web is currently looking for sponsors and speakers. The deadline for talk submissions is December 31, 2007. Conference registration opens December 22, 2007 at the early bird price of $100. Audrey emphasized that the Vancouver PHP Association is non-profit, and that registration fees were being used to put together the best conference possible.Given Vancouver's high level of interest and activities in open source technologies and communities, this event should prove to be popular and attract a great lineup of speakers.
