Copying this over from the post I made this morning on last month's list...

Quick suggestion -- you might want to look into putting Quantcast scores on here as well… from what I can see they’re far more accurate than Alexa (which is based on toolbar installs) and somewhat more accurate than Compete’s rankings.

The big question is where is Plenty of Fish? Surely Markus should be number one?

Plenty of Fish ranked #2 last month, not sure why they didn't appear in this months rankings?

Plenty of Fish was removed as it was realized that it is older than the five years we use in our criteria for a start-up. Error on my part.

I think Quantcast's numbers are only really accurate for sites that have been "Quantified", which is a very small number of sites.

I don't agree with the logic of removing sites older than five years. Or at least if you're going to do this it should be consistent (for example, Suite 101 has also been around since the mid / late 90s).

We consider Suite101 a new venture since 2006, when it was taken into new ownership and their model changed significantly. Same applies to ourselves, as Techvibes the site/brand has been around for more than five years but the current ownership/direction is less than a year old.

Love to see Strutta quickly climb the list...Watch out!

Thanks Simon, I was just reading about the Alexa revamp. However, Compete is pretty flakey on lower traffic (i.e. not in top 100k) sites, and it tracks mainly U.S. visitor ratings.

I know that the numbers they show are well off the mark for Protagonize (the visit count only seems to track about 1/4 or less of our actual visits, either that or it's only tracking U.S. visitors.) Quantcast is much more accurate.
