In October Techvibes covered the three big winners of the BlackBerry Developer Challenge but missed a local Vancouver startup whose mobile app was a finalist in the Web category. Gym Technik is a Vancouver based start-up that provides a cutting edge mobile fitness tracking service.
Gym Technik members can sign up for free and setup their entire workout routines online. And when they are at the gym, they can use their mobile smartphones to guide them through their entire workout. Gym Technik on the smartphone offers visual exercise guidance, ability to track workout stats, cardio stats, and body composition.
Gym Technik launched in July of this year and in 4 short months have grown the user base to 4,000 members from around the world. Next week they'll be releasing a fully translated German version of the application to reach out to the European market in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Gym Technik Co-founder/CEO Sharad Mohan wrote a review of the first BlackBerry Developer Conference and it was published on CrackBerry.com.
The award circuit is treating Gym Technik well. This week they're in the running for top sports and fitness application in Mashable's 2nd Annual Open Web Awards. The Open Web Awards is the only multilingual international online voting competition that covers major innovations in web technology. We'll find out tomorrow if they make it past round one.
