From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show, Verizon Wireless and In Motion Technology announced "the first wireless mobile router system available for securely extending the enterprise network to the vehicle over the world’s largest 4G LTE network." The technology will leverage Vancouver-based In Motion's onBoard system, which features a "Mobile Gateway" that transforms vehicles into secure mobile hotspots.
“We are pleased that our mission critical customers now have the opportunity to do business using the Verizon 4G LTE network," said Kirk Moir, president and chief operating officer for In Motion Technology. "We believe that 4G LTE will revolutionize mobile-centric businesses by enabling improved real-time collaboration. In the case of EMS, 4G LTE provides real-time sharing of video, voice and data that can have a dramatic impact on patient outcomes."
By securely connecting laptops, tablets, electrocardiograms, Electronic Patient Care Reporting IP cameras, Computer Aided Dispatch, and vehicle diagnostic systems, the onBoard Mobile Gateway will improve operational efficiency for emergency responders. The onBoard Mobility Manager enables operations to analyze information from Gateways in the field via a dashboard showing locations, direction and speed, and monitors vehicle diagnostics, devices and networks.
In Motion and Verizon have been working together at Verizon's Innovation Center. Verizon operates the America's largest 4G LTE and 3G networks, serving over 100 million total wireless connections.
