April's Vancouver Enterprise Forum (VEF) networking event is on Philanthrocapitalism and they're secured the perfect speaker.
Philanthrocapitalism - Successful entrepreneurs using business strategies and technologies to effect social change will be led by the Canary Foundation's Don Listwin - a Silicon Valley veteran. His bio speaks for itself.
Don Listwin, Founder and Chairman Canary Foundation is a 25-year veteran of the technology industry. Don was CEO of Sana Security, Openwave and had been the number two executive at Cisco Systems. Listwin walked away from his high profile technology career and launched Canary Foundation in 2004 in order to dramatically accelerate early detection research activities for cancer.
Listwin’s motivation is his family, which has been deeply affected by cancer. Listwin’s father is a colon cancer survivor, and his mother died of ovarian cancer. He has thus far pledged over $22 million for early cancer detection research.
Listwin serves on the Board of Directors of Genologics Life Sciences Software, Public Library of Science, Calix, Stratos Biosciences and the Listwin Family Foundation. He is on the External Advisory Board for the Center for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNE) at Stanford, the Stanford Advisory Board for Canary Center at Stanford and a member of the Board of Trustees at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. In 2009, he was named to the Board of Scientific Advisors of the National Institute of Health.
A native of Canada, Listwin holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering and an Honorary doctorate of Law from the University of Saskatchewan.
