An interesting side story has been brought to my attention thanks to a commenter on our recent blog post about Amazon.com's acquisition of AbeBooks. Peter was kind enough to point out that AbeBooks' CFO John Chase was also involved in selling Victoria-based Power Measurement to Schneider Electric in 2005. As far as I can tell, this makes Chase the only CFO to be involved in two successful Victoria-based exits.
Chase turned out to be a very smart hire by Abebooks in 2006 as he had already successfully sold a company to Amazon.com - Bibliofind in 1999. Ironically, Bibliofind was a competitor of AbeBooks in the late 90s, so Chase ended up helping to sell the same type of business to the same buyer in less than 10 years.
