According to the Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC) in an article in the Victoria Times Colonist today, the Victoria high-tech sector remains strong and stable despite the global economic downturn based on their top 25 list of the regions top companies. While the VIATeC 25 list's overall revenues are down 4.3% to $729.9 Million from $762 Million last year, the median average of those companies' revenues hit an all-time high of $14.85 Million.

The total revenue number was expected to be lower in 2009 because of global economic factors and a number of acquisitions of Victoria high-tech companies. Still, the sector appears to be very healthy, given in November VIATeC released a study showing total annual revenues for Victoria's entire high-tech community hit $1.95 Billion and the total economic impact of the sector is in excess of $2.6 Billion.

While the VIATeC 25 represents only a fraction of the region's 878 high-tech companies, the 25 companies employ 2,738 staff, up 11% over last year and 70% over the 2004 total. The VIATeC Top 25 in alphabetical order are:
