Waterloo Team Competing for $1 Million at Dreamforce Hackathon

Salesforce.com is giving away the largest single hackathon prize ever this week at Dreamforce will a $1 Million top prize.

Hundreds of teams are hacking away in advance of today's 6:00pm submission deadline with the winning app being announced tomorrow.

Teams were encouraged to start building their apps a couple weeks ago and have continued to code on site in the Developer Zone at Dreamforce. Techvibes is aware of at least one Canadian team that made the trek.

Hackathon competitors must build their app using the Salesforce Platform which includes Force.com, Heroku, and ExactTarget.

According to Salesforce's Adam Seligman, Waterloo's Leander Lee, Parth Dave, and Beatrice Law (pictured) won a regional competition at the University of Waterloo hosted by startup Vidyard. The winner of mini-competition won flights to San Francisco to participate in the hackathon.

“We’re in the midst of a mobile app renaissance,” says Adam Seligman, vice president of Salesforce Platform developer and partner marketing, Salesforce.

“Developers are reinventing how business works, and how companies connect with their customers, employees, partners and products in entirely new ways. With the Salesforce Platform, developers are brilliantly more productive, turning ideas into apps faster than ever before leveraging a wide range of mobile, social and cloud services.”

The final five teams will be invited to demo their apps before a panel of celebrity judges. Each finalist team will get to show off their app and take questions from judges. The winners will be announced during a Q&A Session with Saleforce Founders Marc Benioff and Parker Harris at 2:00pm on November 21st.

Good luck to the Canadian contingent.
